What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. Reflexologists believe that these areas and reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and that pressing them has a beneficial effect on the organs and person’s general health.
How does Reflexology work?
It is argued that ‘Crystalline deposits’ of waste products accumulate around nerve endings, representing possible problems in related zones of the body. Stimulating a reflex point helps break down these deposits thus improves circulation and the nerve supply to the related area of the body. Therefore, Reflexology promotes a sense of deep relaxation which will help combat stress cycle.
Pressure sensors in the feet and hands are a part of the body’s reflexive response that makes possible the “fight or flight” reaction to danger. Feet ready to flee and hands ready to fight communicate with the body’s internal organs-think adrenal glands and adrenal… to make possible either eventuality.
The sudden adrenal surge that enables a person to lift a car is an example of this coordinated activity. The perception of pressure by the feet and hands taps into the reflex network that makes possible our every move. Reflexology, consistently applied, provides an exercise of these pressure sensors and thus a conditioning of the internal organs to which they are inextricably tied.
What happens during a session?
A qualified reflexologist believes they can feel crystal deposits on the feet and hands which could indicate areas of sluggish energy flow. A reflexologist would work these areas with the intention to break down the deposits and restore energy flow thus enabling the body to get rid of toxic waste products and heal itself.
